Fashion Friday: Rainbow Hair
Posted on Friday, 23 January 2015
Colourful hair has become a BIG trend in recent years. From block colours like pink, purple and pill box red to ombre effects and right down to literal rainbow hair. Even celebs are jumping on board with Kelly Osbourne rocking her now trademark Lavender hair (and getting good friend Nicole Richie to do the same) to Kylie Jenner having ombre teal tips and even setting up a hair extension collaboration to achieve this look minus the dying.
Bloggers such as Zoe London and In The Frow are famous not only for their incredible blogs, but by their incredibly envious colourful hair (we're seriously in awe of Zoe's ombre blue/green hair! TEACH US YOUR WAYS).
We here at LGC are no strangers to having a bit of colour in our lives. Check out our Rainbow Hair experiences below and what products we've used and what we recommend if you want to dabble in this craze yourself...

KRIZIA
I started off dying my hair all kinds of colours when I attempted to ombre it about 3 years ago. It wasn't until i got rid of as much of the brassyness as i could that the colours really began to pop. I had my blonde tips dyed hot pink professionally before moving on to pink on purple, red, then blue-which was a bad choice. Although i loved the green/teal i ended up with when the blue faded, it didn't wash out no matter what I did so I had to dye it brown (should've really gone with black but I wanted brown so i could easily ombre again) and the green ended up fading into a gross shade of poo green so I had to chop my ends off. Afterwards i bleached my hair again and tried a peach to pink effect, the colour was so light it didn't last long. My last colour was purple, which has now left bits of my hair a browny/red colour (my natural hair colour is black). I just purchased some dye to try make it all red because i love the way it looks in the sun. If I could I would go back to having pink hair, I loved that colour on me the best.

I first had a love for unnatural hair colours when i was playing Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. I loved Kairi from Kingdom Hearts cherry pink red hair and managed to convince my mum to let me dye it a cherry red. But it wasn't until about 4 years ago when I bleached my hair so that I could go silver/white that I purchased Flamingo Pink La Riche Directions. I mis-estimated my timing resulting in BRIGHT PINK hair (I wanted candy floss pink) and the rest was history. Throughout my colourful hair history i've been lilac, lavender, light Green, back to pink, had purple tips and blue tips, and now back to Lavender as it's been my favourite colour that i've ever been (naturally and unnaturally). Everyone is amazed at how my hair hasn't fallen out yet, but I like to think even though I sometimes put my hair through bleach hell I do look after it well with hair serums and not using a lot of heat products. Aside from that I'm still waiting on the day they create a permanent Lavender hair dye, if I could I'd be this colour from now until eternity (or realistically until I get bored).

RECOMMENDATIONS
La Riche Directions:
Sophie first started using La Riche Directions when she took the plunge and went pink for the first time. The dye comes in a gel like state and the application can be annoying if you're wanting to do your whole head, but the colours come in a wide variety. Sophie found the Pink to last for a while fading nicely, whereas the Lavender faded a bit faster but this can be due to it being a light colour already. Regardless she would willingly recommend this brand to anyone who's interested in exploring the colourful side of life.

Schwarzkopf:
We both used the pink and purple dye from the live colour ultra brights range. The colours didn't last too long but long enough! and definitely a lot longer than the other brands. The colour still showed up strong (but not as bright as it does on blonde) on darker hair, so Krizia got a slight purple to pink ombre effect without even going for it. Whereas Sophie achieved BRIGHT pink hair which definitely had her standing out a bit
Bleach London:
Bleach are well known for starting the dip dye trend, and have become quite popular for their hair services. Krizia had her hair dip dyed bright pink in the salon and although she loved it, it was definitely not worth paying over 100 pounds for it. After a huge demand Bleach eventually released a range of hair products and dye exclusively with Boots so of course we both had to try. It was really hard to get the lighter colours to cover all areas, and if they did they would fade super fast. The darker colours were good, but again they would fade too fast. The blue dye Krizia used in their Boots range was the dye that left her with stubborn green hair, Sophie found this when she dyed her tips too and again when she used their "Bruised Violet" colour. If you have the money and want a really awesome wacky style for a few days- the colourists are very talented and can do almost anything with dye, then go for it. But avoid Bleach if you can!
Hair Chalk:
Krizia occasionally uses hair chalk. The one she has right now is the Kevin Murphy Colour Bug in the coral/orange colour. It's good, especially for going over hair that's not blonde, although you do have to put a little extra on. But hair chalk gets everywhere! It's easy to hair spray over it so it doesn't fall and stain your clothes but then you don't want your hair looking too stiff. But it's a great fun alternative to dye and you can easily change your colour every day if you like.
