PSA: Game of Thrones Season 5 Trailer LEAKED

Posted on Saturday, 31 January 2015

CALLING ALL GAME OF THRONES FANS!
Thanks to a couple of sneaky fans the much anticipated Season 5 trailer has been leaked and BOY OH BOY does it seem to be a good one! Rumour has it that the GOT production spent the majority of their money on one very special scene containing Cersei and a church (fans of the book may know what I'm talking about) and made sure no pictures or videos got leaked from this scene.
From what we can tell, Tyrion has managed to escape the city with Varys, Arya has made it to Braavos, we catch glimpes of what I can only assume are Oberyn's children coming to seek revenge on their father and Varys hints that what the Seven Kingdoms needs is a ruler loved by all, a powerful army and the right name to which Tyrion replies "Good luck finding HIM" and Varys responds with "who said it's a HIM".... does this mean Varys has always supported Dany???/ Will Dany finally make her way to Kings Landing to claim what is rightfully hers? We did see the pyramids of Meeran fall...
AND will we ever find out what Rickon is up too?

Hopefully all these questions will be revealed when the new series starts back on 12th April 2015!

Monthly Favourites

Posted on Thursday, 29 January 2015

KRIZIA

1. Concert Tickets
I love going to concerts so of course i'm super stoked that one of my favourite bands the Foo Fighters are playing a stadium show here 2 days before my birthday. This will be my third time seeing them and I cannot wait, they put on one hell of a show. Then the last summer festival to hit New Zealand is during my birthday week. I'm so pumped to see 5 of my favourites from the EDM scene!

2. Fishnet Shorts
I've been looking for shorts like this forever and i'm so glad I finally managed to find a pair on BooHoo, they look so good under denim shorts or dresses. Unfortunately they're no longer in stock.

3. Sketchers GORun
To keep up with my new years resolution of getting fit and healthy (I finally lost the extra Christmas kilos, yay me!) I purchased a pair of these shoes to help me feel more comfortable when I run because having problems with my feet makes running a lot less fun. I lovelovelove GORuns! They are so light, flexi, and have great grip. I feel a lot more comfortable and supported which actually makes me look forward to going for a run.

4. Velvet Shirt Dress
I'm finding it really difficult to find dresses that I like lately so I've turned to shirt dresses and there are so many that I need in my life! At first I wasn't sure about this particular shirt dress because I had my eye on another black piece but it sold out before I could buy it. I didn't notice it was velvet when I bought it so I loved the surprise when I first tried it on.

5. Books
Another one of my resolutions was to read more. This month I've finished reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed and Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. Wild wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be and a bit rushed at the end, I found the movie to be worse. However I sped through Unbroken in 2 days, I just couldn't put it down! Here are the books I plan to read over the next few months.
  • This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession By Daniel J. Levitin
  • Just Listen By Sarah Dessen
  • Tell the Wolves I'm Home By Carol Rifka Brunt
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe By Benjamin Alire Saenz
  • Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain, Revised and Expanded Edition By Oliver Sacks
SOPHIE

1. Knee High Boots
I bought these at the start of the month after speaking to a girl who had a pair similar (except with a higher heel) was wearing them. These were from Public Desire and cost £29.99 compared to the £70 price tag of the same type of boots from River Island. They are so comfy and as someone who's always had issues having knee high boots fit comfortably around my calfs, this stretch material hugs to my calves with no problem at all!

2. Total Divas
I watched one episode of Total Divas over my Christmas break and was hooked! Growing up I was a BIG fan of wrestling and like most things I used to love doing it got to a point where I stopped watching it, BUT with this E! reality tv show following a selection of WWE's Divas my interest and love have reignited and even showing me the new class of Divas (as when I used to watch it Diva's weren't held in much esteem) I have to say my favs have to be Brie Bella, Cameron and Naomi.

3. Blankets
Now this may seem like a random favourite but it seems like coming back from Christmas break the temperature has dropped dramatically! Being from a student house (and especially my house atm) you kind of expect a cold house as having the heating on all day can be pricey. I've been spending most of this month wrapped up in all my blankets to help keep toasty warm!

4. Anniversary Trip
This year me and my boyfriend have decided that for our anniversary that we'd finally go away together. We saw Eurostar having a sale and Brussels was an option. Rob had always wanted to go so we booked our tickets and that was that! I've wanted to go on holiday with him for so long that I'm super excited to be going on this trip with him!

WCW: Hayley Williams

Posted on Wednesday, 28 January 2015

Hayley Williams, front woman of pop punk band Paramore is this weeks WCW!
Growing up in the emo stages of our lives she was the girl we all wanted to be/be best friends with. Her trademark fiery locks were the envy of everyone, as noone can truly pull off that brilliant orange red that Hayley does so well! Along with every other shade of orange, red, blonde and even pink (we have serious outfit/hair envy watching Paramore's music video for Still Into You.
Joining the band at just 14/15 Hayley Williams has been in the industry for pretty much half her life and it doesn't seem like she's got any plans to slow down.
She's been dating Chad Gilbert from legendary pop punk band New Found Glory for the past 5 years and over the Christmas break they announced their engagement which had as here at LGC squeeling with joy! We can't wait to see what the wedding is like!
Her punk ass, no bare hold attitude makes her an excellent role model for those girls who feel as if they don't quite fit in. Sometimes we find ourselves saying "What Would Hayley Do?" and to this day we still hope to meet her and become best friends with her!

PSA: Who you gonna call?

GHOSTBUSTERS!
Director of the reboot Paul Feig may have just revealed the cast of the highly anticipated and talked about Ghostbusters 3.

The director took to twitter a few hours ago to post the photo of the four leading ladies who will most likely be the new faces of the Ghostbuster franchise.  Although he didn't post any confirmation along with the photo, we are so excited to see these four hilarious ladies in action.

Melissa McCarthy was already in talks to play one of the leads. She is joined by Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon who are both part of SNL.

The movie is rumoured to start shooting in New York this summer!

Travel Tuesday: Amsterdam

Posted on Tuesday, 27 January 2015

Amsterdam (or The Dam) was one of my favourite places I visited when I embarked on my month long coach trip around Europe 6 years ago.
It's a city where anything goes and is famous for it's Red Light District and its lenient views on "smoking"

Check out some below some of interesting sights The Dam has to offer!
  • Anne Frank's House is located in the Prinsengracht district and is a must see for all travellers. This musuem dedicated to the wartime diartist is an eye opener to the struggles that partook during that awful part of history. As well as the the aftermath of what happened after the concentration camps were disbanded.
  • If you go during Christmas the Christmas Markets are something to behold, a very magical experience. You'll find lots of traditional dutch food stalls, plenty of hot chocolate and handmade craft stalls (no clogs though).  Make sure to you check out the Christmas light installations as well.
  • Amsterdam is not only home to endless amounts of delicious food shops, but also many brilliant Vintage shops that Krizia fell in love with...in particular one called Episode!
  • Vondelpark is a must see landmark, it's a 47-hectare urban park in Amsterdam-Zuid.
  • Amsterdam has a variety of musuems including one for Van Gogh and Rembrant. Whislt you're there make sure to check out the famous I AMSTERDAM sign located just behind the Musuemplien.
  • Canal cruises are a popular way to enjoy the sights of this beautiful dutch city via the river, some provide meal and nibble options with a choice of drinks.
  • If you're feeling adventurous and doing something out of the ordinary Amsterdam is famous for it's Red Light District and within there you can find numerous peep shows and sex shows. I, myself went to one with my coach group and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. If you are interested in this I can recommend The Casarosso and Hospitalbar
  • While you're in the Red Light District our tour guide recommended checking out the infamous Grasshopper which is a steak and smoke house, even if you can't go in make sure to see it at night as the building lights up green and is truly a lovely sight.
  • And of course you have to check out the busy Dam Square filled with locals and tourists! There are various food stalls, restaurants and shops a plenty! Such is the popularity of Dam Square that you might even have to wait for a seat at one of the many cafés and bars
  • Amsterdam is also famous for it's delicious Chinese food and as someone who has eaten at the Sea Palace I can vouch for how good the quality of food was!
Amsterdam was one of my favourite places on my tour and I may even be going back in April so I'm looking forward to revisiting some of the places mentioned!

Meet DOROTHY

I stumbled across this awesome female fronted band thanks to MTV!
You may recognise this tune from the Ex On the Beach Season 2 trailer.

The LA rock band is named after the front woman herself, with Mark on guitar, Greg on bass and Zac on drums. Dorothy's voice is described as a bad ass gritty version of Adele.
The band haven't released an album yet but you can purchase their self-titled EP on iTunes now.
If you love bands like Deap Vally you'll love Dorothy.

Fashion Friday: Rainbow Hair

Posted on Friday, 23 January 2015

Colourful hair has become a BIG trend in recent years. From block colours like pink, purple and pill box red to ombre effects and right down to literal rainbow hair. Even celebs are jumping on board with Kelly Osbourne rocking her now trademark Lavender hair (and getting good friend Nicole Richie to do the same) to Kylie Jenner having ombre teal tips and even setting up a hair extension collaboration to achieve this look minus the dying.
Bloggers such as Zoe London and In The Frow are famous not only for their incredible blogs, but by their incredibly envious colourful hair (we're seriously in awe of Zoe's ombre blue/green hair! TEACH US YOUR WAYS).
We here at LGC are no strangers to having a bit of colour in our lives. Check out our Rainbow Hair experiences below and what products we've used and what we recommend if you want to dabble in this craze yourself...

TV: Dummies Guide to Pretty Little Liars

Posted on Thursday, 22 January 2015

Pretty Little Liars is a teen drama, mystery, thriller based on the book series by Sara Shepard. I was originally not a fan of the show and only got through the first half of season 1 before I thought it got too cheesy. However over the summer I thought I'd give it another go and 5 seasons later i'm hooked!

Set in the fictional town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania the focus is around four high school girls, Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily who become estranged after their group leader Alison goes missing. A year later the girls start getting bombared with messages from a mysterious figure known only as 'A'.
Each season keeps you guessing as to who 'A' could be to the point where you're not sure who the girls can trust/whether they can trust each other.

Each season ranges from 22-25 episodes running 45 mins each, and like any teen orientated drama it has it's cheesy and highly unlikely moments but that's what adds to the show and keeps the viewers coming back for more.

Season 5 has just come back from it's winter hiatus and all new episodes are available weekly on Netflix (as well as the past seasons). If you love teen drama that isn't your typical run of the mill ordinary show about a group of friends and their lives in high school then this is the show for you.
Pretty Little Liars has been signed on for the another two seasons with the producers saying we should find out who 'A' is in Season 6! If you're already a fan of this show I know you'll be like me and will be ecstatic over the news that the identity of 'A' will be revealed this year.

Travel Tuesday: Reykjavik

Posted on Tuesday, 20 January 2015

Iceland is one of the most beautiful and coolest countries in the world. Reykjavik is the capitol and largest city in Iceland, although it's actually not that large there are many things to see and do and a majority of the tours depart from the centre.

Here's a list of Reykjavik musts!
  • Check out the Lebowski Bar! It doesn't matter if you're a Lebowski fan or not, this little burger joint and bar has a great atmosphere. If you're after McDonalds or any other fast food chain you're out of luck! In Reykjavik you'll only find Subway. If you're feeling adventurous there are many restaurants along the high street that offer whale and puffin for dinner!
  • Some of the best musicians hail from Iceland so if you're a music lover you must go and check out this amazing record store 12 Tonar. They also give away free espresso and tea.
  • The Hallgrímskirkja church is one of the cities main landmarks which can be seen from almost everywhere. For 600ISK you can go to the top for stunning views of Reykjavik. Although you could probably get away with not paying if you're on a budget, no one was monitoring the entrance or exit when I visited.
  • At night visit the Imagine Peace tower, a collaboration with Yoko Ono. The tower of light beams have Imagine Peace inscribed on the wall in 24 different languages.
  • The Harpa Conference and Concert centre is one of the newest additions to city. Sitting at the edge of the water this beautifully designed building is quite a sight. Not too far down from the Harpa is the Sun Voyager which resembles a Viking ship.
  • While you're down this part of Reykjavik make sure you stop by the re-established old harbour. From here you can go on scooter tours, and book whale and puffin tours.
  • Check out the National Museum of Iceland for all of Iceland's interesting history. There are also dozens more museums and art galleries around the city which are just as interesting. The Icelandic folk love their arts and culture.
  • If you have some time to kill on the weekend check out the Kolaportid flea market. Inside you'll find anything and everything. Make sure you pick up a delicious Icelandic hot dog nearby from Baejarins Beztu Pylsur!
  • Some tours that leave from Reykjavik (through Iceland Excursions) that I recommend you go on are The Northern Lights tour. You'll get a delicious cup of hot chocolate and yummy Icelandic Donut. The Golden Circle tour will take you through Þingvellir National Park, to Gullfoss watefall and Geysir hydrothermal area. The Blue Lagoon tour will get you into one of the most famous geothermal spa's in the world. If you're a Game of Thrones fan make sure you head out on one of many tours around the country visiting all the famous filming spots.
If you're brave enough to face the cold, i'm talking extreme cold, head over in the middle of winter. There's ice and snow everywhere and the days are short and the nights are long, but it makes everything look even more spectacular!

Meet HABIBI

I discovered Habibi while I was checking out a few bands listed in Zoe London's female fronted artists to watch in 2015 post. Although the girls weren't actually featured in Zoe's post, the quartet definitely deserve a lot more recognition than they get.

The Brooklyn band was formed in 2011 with Rahil on vocals, Lenny on guitar, Erin on bass, and Karen on the drums. Habibi means 'my love' in Arabic.

Habibi's sound can be described as a mix of psychedelic garage rock meets Motown girl group. Listening to them makes me want to buy a one way ticket to California, learn how to surf and skate, and dance around in my room all at once.

Check out a few of their songs in this playlist!

Fashion Friday: Crop Tops

Posted on Friday, 16 January 2015

Another favourite clothing item of ours at the mo are crop tops. Sophie herself has a sweet lil collection gathering in her wardrobe as they are super versatile and can easily go from a day wear (team with denim high waist shorts, jeans or skater skirts) to night wear combo (we usually go for the high waisted skirt or skort combo), you can even wear them underneath a shirt to add an extra layer/ team with an open check shirt to get that 90's grunge vibe.
So many stores are selling them at mo but our favourites are the ones from Missguided, Topshop and ASOS (ASOS and Missguided are more budget friendly)

TV: Dummies Guide to Shameless (U.S)

Posted on Thursday, 15 January 2015

Usually I'm not a fan of American remakes at all, but Shameless is an exception. The show was originally set in the UK and I've never watched a full episode of the Brit version so I can't compare the two, but the US setting just fits so right with the storyline.

Shameless is a comedy drama that revolves around the Gallagher family from Chicago.

  • Frank is a deadbeat, alcoholic, drug addict, freeloader who pays little to no attention to his kids.
  • Fiona is the eldest child left with the responsibility of taking care of her family.
  • Philip/Lip is a straight A student who enjoys smoking, drinking, and sleeping around in his spare time.
  • Ian isn't Frank's biological child and not many people know that he's gay and that he suffers from the same mental illness as the kids mother, Monica.
  • Debbie is very smart and mature for her young age but has trouble fitting in with her peers.
  • Carl is a troublemaker with psychopathic tendencies.
  • Liam is the baby of the family and although he is black he is Frank and Monica's biological child.
Veronica and Kevin are the Gallagher's neighbours and good friends. Veronica is a webcam girl and caregiver while Kevin is a bartender. Jimmy also known as Steve and Jack is Fiona's on again off again 'wealthy' boyfriend. Sheila is a caring agoraphobic and a germaphobe with strange sexual fetishes. Karen is Sheila's daughter and although she looks sweet she is definitely not. Mandy and Mickey are brother and sister and although they're sometimes aggressive and violent they both have sweet sides to them and form close relationships with the Gallagher's.

Season 5 has just begun (it was just announced that Season 6 is a go too!) and it's very easy to catch up as there are only 12 episodes each season! Be aware that the show is NSFW!

Wishlist Wednesday

Posted on Wednesday, 14 January 2015

KRIZIA
1. Jelly Pop Platform Sandals
I love that jellies have made a comeback and i'm loving that they're being revamped to fit what's hot right now. These shoes caught my eye with the fun bright colour and platform style, which are both hot looks for summer!
2. State of Flux Sneakers
Every time I go into a shoe store I get super jealous of all the light up kids shoes because adults hardly ever get to wear awesome shoes like that. Then I found these amazing sneakers and fell in love with them instantly. I love the black/pink combo!
3. Y.R.U x Dolls Kill Ballet Bae Platforms
Y.R.U are known for their funky shoes and i'm obsessed with these ballet platform heels that they've designed with Dolls Kill. I love chunky shoes and how these look classy but badass at the same time. They also come in black which is what i'd usually go for but you can't beat the classic pink ballet look!

SOPHIE
1. Macbook Air
I love my Macbook Pro and a far as I'm aware there's nothing wrong with it, but the weight. I find it more of a chore to bring it places with me as it's just so darn heavy (#firstworldproblems), with the Macbook Air, it's so much lighter and easier to travel with. It now comes in 13" which is a DREAM as the 11" just does not cut it for me. I may just have to look into seeing if I can sell my Macbook Pro second hand and upgrading haha.

2. Still Alice
I've decided this year I want to get into reading again and not constantly watching netflix in my spare time. I stumbled upon this book on a buzzfeed article (the internet can be good sometimes haha). Still Alice follows a woman and her struggles with early on set Alzheimer's. My gran sufferers from this disease so it's a topic that i'm interested in and seeing how the people affected by it cope with it.

3. Bose SoundTrue Headphones
After seeing these in Kriz's December favourites I instantly fell in love with them. I've been on the lookout for a decent pair of headphones and I love the Black/Mint combo colour style. Bose are known as well for having good sound and they price for them doesn't seem to break the bank too much.

Travel Tuesday: London

Posted on Tuesday, 13 January 2015

London is home to over 9 million people including being the adopted home of one half of LGC so it seemed only fair to have this Travel Tuesday dedicated to this buzzing metropolitan city.
As London is such a massive city I've narrowed down some of my favourite things to do.

Here's a list of things you can do whilst you're visiting:

  • Camden Markets is one of my FAVOURITE places in London, I'd say I go there at least twice a year. Located in the heart of Camden, the markets are held both inside and outside with independent vendors selling their trade. No Camden Market trip is complete without getting some Bang Bang chicken and eating it on refurbished scooter stools.
  • National History Museum situated at South Kensington explores the animal world, dinosaurs and what makes humans tick. Right next door to that is the Science Museum where you can learn all about mans journey to space, see some real moon rock and how we have evolved in terms of techonology throughout the centuries. There's also fun interactive games to further delve into the behavioural traits of humans.
  • The West End! I LOVE LOVE LOVE musical theatre and plays and have managed to see many shows thanks to London's West End. Some of the shows currently playing are The Lion King, Wicked, Billy Elliot, The Book of Mormon, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Woman in Black, Ghost Stories, 39 Steps etc, also there are countless ticket agents competing to give you on the day great value tickets.
  • Madame Tussands can be found 2 minutes from Baker Street Station and can be a fun day out for the kids seeing their favourite celebrities in wax form! The wax museum also ends in a fun lil ride through Britain's history where at the end you get your picture taken, both times that i've gone the pictures have come out hilariously good.
  • South Bank always has something happening whether it be a German influenced winter festival or a summer festival with rides and open aired bars, This area itself is nice as it's right by the river Thames and is a nice walk all on its own. Right by South Bank as well is the London Eye, London Dungeons, and the Aqualife Aquarium.
  • Abbey Road is a very popular Tourist spot that sees hundreds of people trying to recreate the infamous Beatles album cover.
  • If you're fans of Peter Pan then you'd want to head to Kensington Gardens to check out the famous Peter Pan statue
  • Buckingham Palace of course has to make this list. I've been here far too many times but each time I'm still in awe. From the beautiful fountain right outside the gates to the Palace herself. I definitely suggest heading there early/having it the first thing you do that day so you can get a good spot for the changing of the guards. It really is something to see. There's also times when the Palace opens up to the public. I've yet to go to that but it's on my list. There's also nothing quite like seeing the Palace at 3am after a night out.
Now of course these are just a handful of things you can do whilst you're in London. Honourable mentions have to go the Tate Modern, Millenium Bridge, Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral, Hyde Park (especially in summer as you can go swimming in the lake), London Zoo, the Shard and so much more!

MCM: Lee Pace

Posted on Monday, 12 January 2015

Our very first MCM of 2015 goes to a man we've loved for a while, but it wasn't until recently that our love for him was reignited thanks to The Hobbit! Yep it's the dreamy elegant Elven King Thranduil (that wig!). Peter Jackson picked him to play the king after watching him in The Fall (which we recommend you watch btw! and have a tissue handy!) and we couldn't picture anyone else to play him, he was truly born to play the role of the Elven King. He was also in another massive 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy where we didn't even recognise him as baddie Ronan until we saw his name in the credits, and prior to that he was in the final Twilight instalment playing Garrett which was the only good part of the movie in our opinion. He's so versatile, not only has he played an Elf, a villain, and a Vampire, he's also played a transgender show girl, a criminal from the south, a penniless British pianist, and this wednesday he's going to guest star on the Mindy Project as one of Mindy's old flames. But our love for Mr Pace began when we first laid eyes on him in one of our favourite shows (that got cancelled too soon ): ) Pushing Daisies where he baked pies and woke the dead. Seriously look it up now and soon you'll be swooning over the adorable pie maker too.

Fashion Friday: 90's Chokers

Posted on Friday, 9 January 2015

One of our favourite fashion comebacks are 90's chokers!
The classic black plastic choker is still a favourite of ours and one that we can still remember wearing as youngen's! (along with the matching bracelets and rings)
The yin yang, sunshine, and moon are popular symbols from the 90's and you can easily find these chokers on eBay and Etsy for very very low prices! (Sophie recently purchased a few from this seller) Online stores like ASOS and Urban Outfitters also sell them but they can be a little more pricey...Krizia bought two from ASOS for $10 each and one broke straight away, so it might be best to just stick with the cheaper option so you won't be that disappointed if breaks!

Lifestyle: Borough Market

Posted on Thursday, 8 January 2015

On New Years Eve the boyfriend and I decided to head into London with his friend and girlfriend. I had never been to the Borough Markets before and as a lover of food I was pretty keen to go after he suggested it.
There were so many food stalls that ranged from Thai, Egyptian, Ethiopian, Turkish... to good old bangers and mash. I decided on Thai as my boyfriend's friend's girlfriend had gotten some pad thai and it smelt so good. I settled on the chicken pad thai which was £6.50, it was really nice and a great portion for the amount you paid.

There was also a delicious looking cake stand and a cute lil tea stand that hosted a variety of different teas and even sold chai tea (yummmmy!).
I definately want to go back again and try more of the food stalls (and even grab one of the delicious cakes this time)

WCW: Anna Kendrick

Posted on Wednesday, 7 January 2015

Our first WCW of the year goes to the amazing Anna Kendrick.
We feel like she would fit right in with LGC with her wit and sass. If you aren't aware of her sass already you should follow her on twitter for a good laugh!
She also prefers to stay at home in her sweats which we're big fans of too (can we just be BFFS already).
Not only is she an actress, but (if you haven't seen Pitch Perfect do so right now!) she can sing, and she's responsible for creating one of the catchiest songs in 2012 with her cups routine.
As well as Into the Woods (out in cinemas in NZ and UK Jan 9th) and Pitch Perfect 2, Anna has four other movies that are being released in 2015. We think this is the year of Anna Kendrick!
