X Factor: Live Show 2

Posted on Monday, 20 October 2014

This week was 80s week at X Factor but we have to say, the weekend was pretty average for performances compared to last weeks opener. The song selections we thought could have been so much better... it was the 80s! They had so many choices to choose to from!!

Read more about our thoughts on the performances and find out which two acts were sent home below!

OVERS:
We don't really understand the appeal this year of contestants starting off their song lying on the floor but it seems to be the popular thing to do. However the dark horse that is Fleur is continuing to impress us! We disagree with Mel B when she claimed Fleur of cheating by relying on her backing track. Like Simon said everyone has a backing track, so why the hate Mel?

We were very impressed with Jay's version of 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' such a classic song redone in a completely different way (although this is one of Sophie's most "disliked" songs- oops). We didn't think it was good enough to close the show but it was still a nice twist on a very classic and worn out song.

There's no doubt that Ben can sing. He is a natural performer and we think his version of John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy' was a perfect song choice to show off his voice. But it wasn't any different to his other performances, we want to see something different Ben! Even though his performance got him a standing ovation from Mel, we feel like she was way harsh to the poor guy (again) for complaining about being sick.

Of course Stevi would be the one that rick-rolled the nation and we wouldn't have had it any other way. We also thought he would have been perfect singing Dead or Alive's killer tune 'Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record)'. Regardless we LOVE his enthusiasm and his interaction with the audience is something a few of the other contestants could pick up on.

GIRLS:
'What a Feeling' was the perfect song choice for this popstar to be! We loved her slowed down version and she looked stunning! This girl has got herself a huge set of lungs for her age and is one of our fave performers from the weekend.

Lola proved again this week that she can hit her notes, but something about this performance of John Lennon's 'Imagine' was off. We felt like Lola was about a split second too slow behind the music at the start but eventually she got better. We're hoping to see her move around on stage next weekend!

Chloe was looking absolutely fabulous again this week. Her version of 'Fame' didn't sound too jazzy and we actually really enjoyed it. Compared to last week we felt like she was more confident and wasn't trying too hard. Mel B and Simon unfortunately weren't fans and preferred her last performance of 'Toxic'.

We loved the reggae twist to the Blondie classic but agreed with Mel when she said it got a bit boring. Thankfully for Stephanie she lost her squeakyness and we heard that bigger voice which saved her performance from being a complete borefest!

BOYS:
LGC HQ favourite Andrea was flawless once again. As Whitney seems to get butchered every year on X Factor it was refreshing to have Andrea do his spin on it. Krizia wasn't too sure of the slow start at first but loved it once he belted out those perfect Andrea notes, whereas Sophie loved it from start to finish. We did enjoy last week's more though and we think it would be nice to see Andrea do something other than a ballad.

Paul took on Simply Red's classic ballad 'If You Don't Know Me By Now' which is a fan favourite for us. However we felt there was something lacking in Paul's performance this week.  It was still a great performance but we've definitely seen better.

Jake's song choice this week was just a tad too big for him. We like that he took a risk but we'd prefer it if next time it was a more calculated risk, and was a song that fits his vocal range. It was clear that he was pushing himself to get to those vocal notes that his voice just can't do justice too.

We had never heard this song before but we loved Jack's spin on it. It was nice seeing him guitar-less for a moment however he did seem a bit lost and not as confident, we just hope that the guitar doesn't become too much of a crutch.

GROUPS:
Firstly we cannot believe none of the boys had heard of 'Boys of Summer' (we feel so old!!). Secondly,  we wish people would stop comparing all boy bands to 1D! (Respect to the little Irish fella for his response to the comparison!). The boys didn't have a very good night, the same 'choreography' was used again, it must be hard to figure out what to do with 8 boys on stage but we want to see something new! The harmonies were good but the solos need a little bit more work! We want to see the boys loosen up a bit!

We just don't know how we feel about these kids anymore. They're great vocally and work really well together but the start of this performance made us feel like we were watching a school talent show,  and once the chorus came along it was like watching a cheesy musical where everyone suddenly gets together for one last sing along. If the brunette girl wasn't in the group we feel like they wouldn't have a chance. Only The Young are fast becoming the act we would get up to go to the toilet while they were on.

ELIMINATED
Stephanie had the lowest votes this weekend and was the first act of the night to leave the competition leaving Chloe Jasmine and Stereo Kicks to fight for survival. We were quite shocked Stevi was put through again to be honest! (As much as we love him he has to go!). First up was Chloe who was awful! We don't know if it was the nerves or not but she seemed a little odd, her performance was a mess and if the judges were basing their votes on this performance alone we knew she was definitely going to get the boot! Stereo Kicks mixed it up a bit by giving the less stronger singers some solos and now we understand why they don't get solos in the first place. Overall they were much better than Chloe by far and we're happy to see the boys get another chance.

12 acts are left! Who do you think will leave next?
