American Horror Story

One of LGC's favourite TV shows is back for its fourth season with 'Freak Show'. Who would have thought the creators of Nip/Tuck and Glee would have anything to do with a series like this? If you're not a follower of American Horror Story it's not too late to check the series out! We've made an easy guide to AHS as well as taking a look at the first episode of the brand new season!
Season 1: Murder House
Season 1 follows the Harmon family who move in to a new home with a gruesome past to try amend a troublesome marriage. As well as their family problems the Harmon's also have to deal with intrusive 'guests' and previous inhabitants who haunt the home. Season 1 isn't our favourite of the series, but it did have its moments, we enjoyed the brief appearance of Elizabeth Short aka The Black Dahlia and there a few good little twists along the way. We just wish more was done with the antichrist story line!
Season 2: Asylum
Season 2 left a lot of a unanswered questions and equal amounts of dark weird moments. Asylum begins in the 60's and takes us through to present day following the lives of the patients and staff at Briarcliff Mental Institution. Inside we meet many patients who are unjustly institutionalized, as well as sadistic and power abusive staff, a possessed nun, mutilated patients, murderers, nymphomaniacs, and serial killers. Oh and we also encounter aliens and a woman claiming to be Anne Frank! it's a lot to take in but it's an interesting watch.
Season 3: Coven
We were super excited for Coven and had high expectations for the series! We were left a little disappointed (Ryan Murphy, you could have done SO much more with this theme!) but overall we were pleased with what we got. Coven revolves around the girls of a boarding school in New Orleans for witches. The coven are Salem descendants and the school is run by a headmistress and her mother the supreme, who holds the seven wonders of witchcraft and is the head of the coven. The series has voodoo, witch hunters, zombies, torture, burning at the stake, a fictionalized Delphine LaLaurie, and of course witchcraft. It is our favourite out of the three so far!
Season 4: Freak Show
We don't want to give too much away about the first episode, but wow, we weren't scared of clowns before the show but seeing Twisty the clown in action gave us the creeps! We don't want to see him running towards the camera or lurking from far away ever again. Freak Show reminded us of watching a scary movie where you're constantly yelling at the screen because the characters do something stupid. If you venture into a house and come across a dead body don't continue upstairs with a rolling pin as your choice of weapon. If a dirty creepy clown pops out of nowhere while your boyfriend fetches something from the car don't wait around to watch his tricks-run! Freak Show had its shocking WTF moments and one particular scene that may be upsetting and uncomfortable to watch, but it looks promising. We just hope Ryan Murphy hasn't done anything predictable this season. We're looking forward to meeting the rest of the 'freaks' in the next few episodes!
Are you excited to head to the freak show?
