X Factor: Live Show 1

Posted on Tuesday, 14 October 2014

The contestants took on number 1's this past weekend and we also met the four wildcards and said goodbye to two acts. Read all about the first live show below!

WILDCARDS
Stevi Ritchi picked by Cheryl
We're not too sure whether to be surprised or not with Stevi's return. We were thinking Cheryl would pick someone more serious (sorry Stevi) but his performance to 'Livin' La Vida Loca' was everything we thought it was going to be-but better! It was fun and energetic and just typical Stevi with an added ripped shirt ending. He's not the best and he knows it, but he brings the cheese and we don't hate it.
Lola Saunders picked by Louis
We knew Lola was in after a poorly cut clip was shown on the Xtra Factor last week, but we think Louis made a great choice! Lola's performance of 'Stay With Me' was flawless and she seemed much more confident and relaxed than her previous performances, we're loving the new and improved Lola!
Jack Walton picked by Simon
LGC are bowing down to Simon for bringing back our favourite! We weren't expecting him to come out and perform 'Only Girl In The World' but we loved his take on the song! We also loved his confidence on stage! He knows he's got to fight to stay after this second chance.
Overload Generation picked by Mel B
Following the uproar when they went home during the six seat challenge we had an inkling these boys would be brought back. We love that they're fighters but we didn't think they put 100% into their performance of 'I Kissed A Girl'. Sometimes they looked a bit lost and awkward on stage which was a shame because we had high hopes for the boys.

GROUPS
We love the chemistry and how they're always on point vocally. But we're not too sure what to think about their mashup of 'Jailhouse Rock' and 'Twist and Shout', it was fun but kind of reminded us of karaoke. We would've picked a more recent number 1 hit/s to sing.
They brought the weird wacky and fun with their performance of 'Kids In America'. It was a bit of a typical song choice for the odd duo but we actually ended up not hating it as much as we thought we were going to. Their vocals also didn't sound that annoying in some parts and we loved the crazy stage set up for the group.
We're not loving the new name for the 8 piece...but besides that we loved the boys performance of another Katy Perry hit 'Roar'. They had solid harmonies and need a little bit more work on choreography and avoiding that awkward wiggling. They also got the famous "next big boy band" comment from Louis!

OVERS
Fleur:
Fleur came out singing current hit 'All About That Bass' where she made herself known and firmly placed her as one to watch, however for someone who showed us during auditions that she can dance and sing, we felt she wasn't involved enough in the dancing and more just walked around waving her hands at timely placed moments. Vocally she was on point.
Ben:
Ben Haenow came out with his haunting beautiful rendition of Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. It was a simple yet powerful and we had to disagree with Mel's comment as we thought this performance oozed Ben.
Jay:
Jay took a risk and stepped away from his ballad's and got the crowd going with Sigma's big hit 'Changing'. We thought this was a perfect song choice for him and loved it from start to finish! However our only critique would be that he needs to give us a bit more energy when he performs these types of songs. We also agree with Louis and Simon's comment that he's a young Kevin Costner/ Adam Levine.

GIRLS
Lauren stunned us with her amazing performance of 'Happy' mashed up with Massive Attack's 'Teardrop'. She looked and sounded incredible and just like a little pop star. For being the youngest in the competition she was super confident and one girl who'll be tough to beat.
We weren't fans of Stephanie's take on 'Everything I Own', she isn't a contestant we see going far in the competition because she's not exciting and doesn't seem that confident by herself. She has a good voice but not one that can take her places as a solo artist, and sometimes it's just far too quiet and squeaky it's annoying.
The fabulous Chloe jazzed up a Britney classic this week and it was awesome. 'Toxic' was quite an easy song choice to slow down and jazz up but we loved her performance. We know that it's her thing but we would love to see her sing something without the jazz vibes in the future!

BOYS
Jake:
Jake sang Robin William's number one hit 'She's the one', there was a bit of cringe factor with the camera panning on him lying down singing. We thought it was good but not great. This week Jake was one of the contestants we would have quite easily popped to get a drink or do some uni work while we wait for the next act.
Paul:
Paul opened the show with Ella Henderson's hit 'Ghost'. It was nice seeing him sing something a bit more upbeat but we think he only gave us 90% of himself, but this could be down to it being the first show and the first person to open the show so we can't fault him for that. Was still an amazing performance.
Andrea:
Hands down best performance of the night! He wowed the judges, audience and us with his powerful rendition of Michael Jackson's 'Earth Song'. He sang it so perfect and with such passion we got goosebumps.

ELIMINATED
We weren't shocked that Blonde Electra had the lowest amount of votes and were the first to be eliminated, they were the least liked act before live shows even began. The sing off between Stephanie and Overload Generation led to deadlock which saw Overload Generation go home. We were a bit disappointed with the boys performance, they had a chance to fight for their place in the competition (again) but for some reason we felt like it just didn't work. We hope to hear more of that stronger voice in Stephanie next weekend but we think we'll see her in the sing off again with Stevi.

Are you happy with the weekends results?

S. & K.
xx
