OOTD: It's the Addam's Family

Posted on Friday, 31 October 2014

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Krizia

I've always wanted to dress up as Wednesday Addams for Halloween but no matter how hard i looked i could never find the perfect dress! I wanted Sophie's which she got from ASOS but by the time i went to buy it my size was sold out, luckily I found this one which I preferred because of the lace detail. I'm wearing mine with my trusty black knee high socks that I also purchased from ASOS and my Jeffrey Campbell Lita's  which aren't very Wednesday Addams but I just love them too much. Wednesday's hair is very sleek and tightly braided but I just can't rock that look without my face looking huge so (you can't really tell) but my braids are loose and a bit messy at the top to make my hair look less flat. I'm wearing Gothic Glam lipstick in the colour Scorned 2 and I've added a bit more bronzer than usual under my cheekbones to give me a more gaunt/dead look.

Sophie

Wednesday Adams speaks to me on a spiritual level, whether it's her hatred for people or if it's just her love for the colour black. I used to wish I could be just like her and have been on the hunt for a dress like hers for awhile. I finally stumbled across a style via Katie Snooks where she had done an ASOS haul and I knew I had to have it. It's super comfy and I love the contrasting white cuffs and collar. My hair isn't as black as Wednesday's or as long so my plaits are relatively shorter (which i feel gives off a more house on the prairie vibe). I teamed this all with a pair of black and my chunky heeled chelsea boots. As for makeup I kept the look simple. I used Sephora Gel Eyeliner to give off a subtle cat eye flick and then used a small amount of my Sephora Full Action mascara. For my lips I used Gothic Glam in Scorned 2 (same as Krizia).

LGC Style Icon Halloween Edition: Heidi Klum

Posted on Wednesday, 29 October 2014

This month in keeping with our Halloween theme we've chosen the ever so enchanting Heidi Klum as our Style Icon for the main fact that she is the Queen of Halloween costumes!

We here at LGC love her dedication to her costumes and look forward to what she's got up her sleeve every year!
These are just a select few of her costumes but from what you can see she's been pretty much everything, from Alien/Cyborgs, Betty Boop, Shiva all the way to her costume last year of an old lady complete with varicose viens!!
We also love how ex hubby Seal was always just as dedicated in joining in with his wife's costume (we loved the role reversal of Eve and the Snake).
If you cash to splash Pinterest is great to find really well made replicas of costumes (can also try Ebay).

What has been your favourite Heidi Klum costume/ What are you going as for Halloween?!

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 4

Posted on Friday, 24 October 2014

The Grudge
Krizia somehow managed to watch this in the cinema when it first came out and it's the first scary movie to really terrify her. The Grudge is actually a remake of the Japanese horror called 'Ju-On: The Grudge' (which is also a video game...no thanks). The Grudge stars Sarah Michelle Gellar who is a nurse living in Tokyo. While she's caring for an elderly woman she is exposed to a supernatural curse, a curse that is born when someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage or extreme sorrow. Those who encounter it die and the curse is reborn repeatedly, spreading from victim to victim. The reason why it's so creepy goes to the mother ghost Kayako who is seen crawling up and down the stairs (up there with that stairs scene from 'The Exorcist'), and the scene which haunted Krizia the most involving a death rattle type sound and someone lurking underneath the bed sheets.
Dead Silence
After umming and ahhing over what this week's second LGC horror film pick would be Sophie suggested the ever so creepy Dead Silence. Krizia was the one that introduced this to Sophie and from there a love/hate relationship blossomed (even writing this is creeping Sophie out). The movie is about Mary Shaw who loved her dolls and was a skilled ventriloquist but after a boy went missing the villagers thought it was her fault and killed her. Her spirit terrorises the town and every victim she encounters she rips out their tongue. Starring Ryan Kwanten as Jamie this movie gets you at every turn and the twist at the end is truly jaw dropping. Just remember to not make a sound because as the saying goes:
"Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls. If you see her in your dreams, make sure you never ever scream, or she'll cut your tongue out at the seam"

Honourable Mentions
Thirteen Ghosts
Halloween Series (remake included)
Silent Hill
Friday the 13th
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Wrong Turn Series

Review: Top 4 Fave Dark Lips

Posted on Thursday, 23 October 2014

In keeping with the halloween theme, Sophie thought it would be good to review her 4 favourite dark lipsticks.

The lightest colour out of the lipsticks mentioned I thought i'd add it as for a nude colour it's colour is quite deep. When applied it looks more of a dark coffee brown. It's easy to apply and feels smooth which is probably down to the Shea Butter incorporated into the lipstick. The lasting appeal is good, keeping touch ups to a minimum. I don't wear this colour as much as I like but as winter is fast approaching here in the UK I think this will be replacing my nude lipsticks.
RRP: £4.49

2, Topshop Lip Bullet: Wine Gum
After seeing a review from Lily Melrose on the Topshop Lip Bullet (or maybe it was Crayon) I just had to get one for myself. As she had recommended the red colouring and I was already in possession of a red lipstick, I chose Wine Gum as I had previously lost my Barry M lipstick of a similar colour. The application is smooth, but you do have to concentrate when you are applying to make sure you don't end up looking like Coco the Clown. After looking around on the internet it seems as if this colour is sold out.

A redder version of N40 this lipstick is part of Collection's Gothic Glam range. I was originally only meant to pick up this lipstick in Scorned but as the lipstick was under £3 I couldn't not say no. Like Fond Farewell it's is easy to apply, however the few times I have worn it, the lasting effect is not as long.
RRP: £2.98

I had always wanted to try and pull off a purple lipstick and after seeing this colour on Krizia I bit the bullet and bought it. To be honest I haven't worn it as much as I'd like but that's down to me only just experimenting with colour lipsticks. I love my nude coloured lipsticks! When I have worn it I love it, although the lasting effect as mentioned above is less desirable, and I have to make a conscience effort to make sure my lips appear fuller as I find darker lipsticks can make my lips look thinner then what they are.
RRP: £2.99

What's your favourite dark lipstick? Leave a comment below!

WCW: Taylor Momsen

Posted on Wednesday, 22 October 2014

Before fronting her band 'The Pretty Reckless' Taylor Momsen was an actress, usually the transition between actor to musician or vice versa makes us cringe but Taylor is actually quite a great singer.
Her breakout role was in 2000 playing the adorable Cindy Lou Who in 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' and she then went on to play the presidents daughter in 'Spy Kids 2'.
Did you know Taylor auditioned for the main role in Hannah Montana? and got in to the top 3!
Her last big role as an actress was Jenny Humphrey in 'Gossip Girl' and from there she left the show to pursue her career in music.
Along with changing her career came her change in appearance. She rocks her risky lingerie attire and super high platform heels on stage,  she takes the smokey eye to a whole new level, and we admire her 'don't give a fuck' attitude.

TV: Dummies Guide to Teen Wolf

Posted on Tuesday, 21 October 2014

Teen Wolf is one of Sophie's current favourite shows at the moment, with season 4 finished just over a month ago she can't wait to see what season 5 has install for Scott McCall and his pack.

MTV rebooted this movie franchise in 2011 and turned it into a show. Although the first season could be deemed as super cheesy the seasons keep getting better and better.
Tyler Posey (you might remember him as J-Lo's son in Maid in Manhattan) plays Scott McCall, newly turned werewolf and all round nice guy, Stiles (played by up and comer Dylan O'Brien) who is Scott's best friend and comedy relief in the show (and Sophie's Fav). Love interest is new girl Alison who is played by new girl Crystal Reed and her best friend is played by Holland Roden (another fav of Sophie's), rounding up the pack is Derek- Scott's sometimes mentor/friend who is also a werewolf.

Each season has it's own gripping storyline with Season 3 being the most captivating in Sophie's opinion, and was the first time this 12 episode series was bumped up to 24 episodes (spilt into two parts). We won't delve into two much about the series incase there are readers who are interested in getting into it and god knows spoilers are never fun!

However if you are new to the fandom or are curious we seriously recommend giving this ago (just push yourself through the first season, trust me), definitely for fans of mythical supernatural beings who like a bit of action with a side order of cheese.

*This trailer does not do the show justice but it was the only one we could find

Season 5 is set to return in 2015 and this time it's been signed to do 20 episodes!!!

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 3

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Another classic Wes Craven film and one you may have seen in 2010 when the (average) remake came out in cinemas. A Nightmare on Elm Street is about Freddy Krueger, a man who seeks revenge on the parents who burned him alive by killing their children in their dreams/nightmares. The Elm Street franchise now consists of 9 films 5 of which are sequels to the original plus a crossover with Jason Voorhees, novels and comic books. Each of the films feature creative and grotesque deaths, one in particular that has stuck with Krizia involves Freddy using one of the kids as a human puppet by slicing him down his arms and legs and we'll leave you to think about what he does to the poor kid next.

The Conjuring
Directed by James Wan this 2013 horror film centres on the Perron family whose house seems to be haunted. Enter Ed and Lorraine Warren who are paranormal investigators who come to help expel the evil inside the house. This is currently one of Sophie's fav horrors which is not like her as anything to do with the paranormal super freaks her out. Regardless The Conjuring is one of the best horrors to come out recently. Excellent storyline, including a mini teaser of a storyline for the creepy possessed doll Annabelle, the casting is great with Vera Farmiga playing Lorraine the sensitive clairvoyant, Lili Taylor who plays Carolyn the matriarch of the family and is the target of the haunting. Every time we see it we still get creeped out when Nancy claims she can see someone standing by the door (Sophie can never see it), and we can't forget to mention the delightful game of hide and clap that is featured in the movie (even one of the ghosts wanted to get involved).
The spin-off movie Annabelle is out in cinemas across NZ & UK

What are some of your favourite horror films?

Beyond Belief Fact Or Fiction
I remember staying up way past my bed time to watch every episode i could. The episode would usually have about 4 or 5 strange stories and before the show ended the host would tell you which stories were based on fact and which were fiction. Although i don't remember most of the stories i saw i clearly remember this one below which turned out to be fact!

The Twilight Zone
This particular story is the reason why i dislike dummies, Another good one in the series is 'The Masks' which still creeps me out today. If you're a Goosebumps fan you may notice similarities between these two stories and 'Night of the Living Dummy' and 'The Haunted Mask'.

Goosebumps
Some of the Goosebumps episodes weren't that scary at all, it was a children's show after all,  but one episode that i've never forgotten (and that i still own on VHS) is 'Welcome To Dead House'. I guess this terrified me even more because it reminded me of the Thriller music video with the zombies.

Honorable Mentions
Courage The Cowardly Dog
Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
Tales From The Crypt
The X-Files

Looking back now some of these shows are super lame and cheesy but even after all these years they're still mega creepy!

Wishlist Wednesday!

Posted on Wednesday, 15 October 2014

I've gotten clothes from Nikki Lipstick before and i highly recommend grabbing one of her jumpers, they are super comfy! I've had my eye on this particular one for a while because i loved American Horror Story: Coven. The thing i love the most about Nikki Lipstick clothing is that there's always an option to have your tops and jumpers cropped or full length. I love the cropped look on this jumper.
I've never really gotten the Black Milk hype until they came out with some amazing Harry Potter and Disney collections. As a Disney lover these leggings jumped out at me straight away, as well as a dozen other pieces that i desperately want!
I am obsessed with my Docs but they get a bit too heavy and hot in summer, and as summer is fast approaching for me down in the southern hemisphere it'll soon be time for me to ditch my boots for a few months. I love the look of these chunky sandals and i really want to get my hands on a pair!

Sophie is super busy working on her dissertation this week, but she'll be back for the next WW!

What's on your WW this month?

MCM: Evan Peters

Posted on Monday, 13 October 2014

After that amazing, yet slightly disturbing first episode of American Horror Story we had to give Evan Peters the MCM spot this week.
He only started acting in 2004 where we first saw him take on the role as one third of the dorky trio looking for the babes in the teen movie 'Sleepover'. He then went on to star in one of Krizia's favourite short lived TV shows 'The Days'. He also had roles in Disney's 'Phil of the Future', 'One Tree Hill', 'Ghost Whisperer', and 'Criminal Minds'.
It wasn't until 2010 where things picked up and he got a small role in the film 'Kick-Ass', the following year he landed his breakout role in the American Horror Story series. On the show he's played an unstable (dead) teenager, a kind and loving husband and father, a frat boy turned zombie robot who had a hard time controlling his emotions and a handsome charming man with lobster like hands. He plays all his roles on the show incredibly well, and knows how to play creepy a little too good.
Evan's next big role is in the new X-Men movie out next year where he'll reprise his role as Quicksilver.

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 2

Posted on Friday, 10 October 2014

Paranormal Activity
The trailer definitely makes the movie out to be scarier than what it actually is, but for a low budget film it did make both of us jump! Katie and Micah are a young couple who are haunted by a supernatural presence in their home which has taken an interest in Katie. They decide to set up a camera in their room while they sleep in the hopes that they can capture any of the strange activities on film. We were not fans of the dragging from the bed and the loud heavy footsteps running up the stairs. Krizia in particular doesn't like the movie because after watching it she had her first experience with sleep paralysis which if you haven't experienced before is terrifying. There are three different endings to the film and there are now five follow ups to the movie (and plans to make more!) all of which didn't have to be made, but they each have their creepy moments and characters, special mention has to go to 'Toby' from Paranormal Activity 3.

The Hills Have Eyes
This is one of Sophie's favourite horror films, and was the first horror film she ever went and watched in the cinema (normally she would wait till she could watch it in the comforts of her home). It's a remake of Wes Craven's 1977 film. It focuses on the Carter family who are travelling to San Diego to celebrate Ethel and Bob's silver anniversary. It's smooth sailing till a gas attendant tells them of a quicker route (note to self never take an off beaten road in America) in which they then become targets of a mutant community living in the hills. We should note there is one scene in particular that people may find disturbing so watch with caution if you are easily offended. We have to give a special shout out to Ruby (ruby ruby ruby ahhhhhhhhhhhh) she's that mutant child you can't help but want to survive! There is a sequel which we feel isn't worth mentioning for the amount of flaws it has but it is still an enjoyable watch.

Let us know what your favourite scary movie is!

One of LGC's favourite TV shows is back for its fourth season with 'Freak Show'. Who would have thought the creators of Nip/Tuck and Glee would have anything to do with a series like this? If you're not a follower of American Horror Story it's not too late to check the series out! We've made an easy guide to AHS as well as taking a look at the first episode of the brand new season!

WCW: Sarah Michelle Gellar

Posted on Wednesday, 8 October 2014

Since it's halloween month LGC had to commemorate the badass that is Buffy The Vampire Slayer!
Sarah Michelle Gellar is no stranger when it comes to the horror genre, she came to prominence in the 90's with her roles in classic teen horror films. Her breakout movie role was Helen in 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' where she also met her future husband, the dreamy Freddie Prinze Jr! Following this role she took on another classic 'Scream 2' as Cici, who meets her end when she's stabbed and thrown off the balcony. Her filming commitments caused her to turn down a role in another popular 90's slasher 'Urban Legend'.
When she wasn't working on films she had the role of Buffy to play, the chosen slayer who fights vampires, demons, and dark forces,  the series is one of the most successful TV shows form the late 90's early 00's.
After her roles as the damsel in distress Daphne in the Scooby Doo movies, SMG returned to the dark side as Karen in on of the creepiest movies we've seen 'The Grudge' and since then has had a few more roles in movies with dark story lines. These days she's giving movies a rest and sticking to her TV roles,  being an advocate for several charities, and being a kick ass mum!

TV: Dummies Guide to Vampire Diaries

Posted on Tuesday, 7 October 2014

Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries is back on our screens with the premiere being last Thursday. This is also the very last and final season for this CW hit show (Sophie is in a glass case of emotion over this.)

Based on the 29 sec promo video for the upcoming season fans of the show won't be disappointed!

For those of you who are new to the show/yet to become encapsulated by it The Vampire Diaries follows Elena Gilbert as she first tackles the death of her parents and her life after in the fictional town of Mystic Falls. There she is drawn into the supernatural world when she falls in love with the new guy at school Stefan Salvatore who is actually a 163 year old Vampire.
Each season is 22 episodes long but you'll find yourself wanting more and before you know it you'll be all caught up.
Stefan plays a great tortured vampire with a soul, Elena our protagonist is not just a damsel in distress which is refreshing, Bonnie is Elena's best friend who also is a witch and Caroline is the typical self absorbed friend who does a 180 and ends up being the character you just can't not love.

If you're a fan of Twilight but find True Blood too intense then The Vampire Diaries is just want you need. We feel it's a happy medium between the two- love stories with a bit of action but your protagonist female is strong and independent (sorry Bella). It even has it's own spinoff show The Originals!

Klaus *heart eyes emoji*

The final season of The Vampire Diaries is currently showing on The CW every Thursday 8/7c
The UK should expect it end of Oct hopefully on ITV2

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 1

Posted on Friday, 3 October 2014

Poltergeist Trilogy
The Poltergeist series revolves around the youngest daughter of the Freeling family, Carol Anne, who one night connects with spirits through a dead channel on the TV. At first the ghosts are harmless but they soon turn nasty as they try to kidnap and possess Carol Anne and kill her family, you may recognize some scenes in the first film that were spoofed in Scary Movie 2. We would consider the films to be classic must see 'horror' movies, watching them now they're full of cringe worthy acting and some pretty bad special effects, but it was the 80's and at the time the series was pretty terrifying. The third movie had Krizia petrified of mirrors and windows for years as she had the biggest fear that she would see Kane (the creepy, evil, dead preacher) and the movie still haunts her to this day (Sophie has yet to see these films). Supposedly real human remains were used in the films which led people to speculate the film was cursed after the untimely deaths of the two young actresses Heather O'Rourke (Carol Anne) and Dominique Dunne (the eldest Freeling child). Look out for the remake in July 2015!

I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in the peak of the 90s when slasher horror films where at their prime! (This was also one of the very first horror films Sophie ever watched :O)
The plot is simple, four friends- Julie, Ray, Helen and Barry- from a small costal town accidentally run over a pedestrian on the drive home from a late night beach hang, they then agree to dispose of his body by the docks and never speak of it again. A year later the four friends are the target of someone who knows their little secret from the summer before and is wanting to get some payback. This film is a classic slasher from start to finish teamed with big name 90s stars in the cast- Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jnr, Ryan Phillipee and Sarah Michelle Gellar (who also got the lead in Buffy that same year) made this film a blockbuster hit. Entertainment Weekly even praised Jennifer Love Hewitt and her performance as Julie saying she that she "knew how to scream with soul."

Check back next week to find out more of our favourite halloween films! What movies are on your list to watch this halloween?
