X Factor: Live Show 8 Quarter Final
Posted on Monday, 1 December 2014
It's the Quarter Finals here on X Factor and this week saw the acts perform two songs each! Song choices were made from artists in the industry such as Sam Smith, One Direction, and Little Mix... while their second song was picked by the public. Read on to see how they went and who made it to the semi finals!
BOYS:
Andrea
Sam Smith pick Sia's hit song 'Chandelier' which can be a super hard song to sing vocally and to do justice. We loved his spin on it and the production was superb, we liked how it was slow at the start and picked up in the middle. It's refreshing to see Andrea do more contemporary songs and it shows us he can tackle any song given to him.
For his second song the public picked a MASSIVE diva song with 'Hero'. As this is his comfort song it was a perfect song choice for him, however the judges were worried about the public getting bored with the diva songs. We think he sung it really well, with lots of passion and we loved how he started the song in Italian!!
GIRLS:
Lauren
2011 winners Little Mix picked 'Clarity' by Zedd which could've been such an amazing performance if Lauren put a little more effort in! We agreed with Mel that you could tell she wasn't in to it, but luckily for her we loved the staging and dancers so that saved the performance and made it fun. Lauren also struggled to reach a few notes but she was sick throughout the week so she did well despite being ill.
The public picked 'Don't You Worry Child' by Swedish House Mafia. Although it's quite a fast dance track Lauren decided to keep it slow which was a great choice and it was much better than her first performance. The vocals were better and she looked a lot more comfortable.
OVERS:
Ben
One Direction picked 'Come Together' for Ben and it was a great choice. He looked and sounded like the rockstar he would be if he won. We hope to see him in the semi finals!
The public picked 'Thinking Out Loud' by Ed Sheeran and we loved it! Krizia perferred it to the first song as she saw The Beatles as being a tad predictable. We disagreed with Mel when she said this wasn't his song, we loved his take on it and like Andrea it's good to see him trying more contemporary pop songs.
Fleur
Emeli Sande picked Tina Turner's 'A Fool in Love' and it was soooooo good!! Again she's proving to us that she is the whole package. The only criticism we have is that we wish her vocals were just a tad stronger and clearer on certain notes. We hadn't heard this song before (and Sophie loves a bit of Tina Turner) but she's made this song current and we'll be hitting youtube to hear the original as well.
The public picked Alicia Keys 'If I Ain't Got You' and Fleur knocked it out of the park! It was perfect and it was so nice to see her just sing, as the majority of her performances have her dancing around the stage.

GROUPS:
Stereo Kicks
Tulisa picked 'Just The Way You Are' for the boys this week and it was a great choice! The vocals were spot on once again but we disagreed with everything that the judges said. Mel thought the vocals could have been better and that the track swallowed them, Cheryl said it was boring to see them in a line a again (but the choreography changed at the last minute so it wasn't their fault!) and Simon thought it was the wrong track and that it was too fast for them. Haters gonna hate!
The public picked 'Run' which was the first song the boys sung togeter at bootcamp after they were just put together. We loved seeing the difference and how meaningful the song is to them, it was a good emotional performance. We also loved that they stripped it down and we really got to hear them sing.
ELIMINATED
It was a very tense sing off between the bottom two this week. Lauren and Stereo Kicks received the fewest votes and although deep down we knew the boys didn't have a chance against her we were still hoping for a twist. Lauren sung a song from her first audition 'I Know Where I've Been', it was a stunning performance, you could tell she was gutted but she definitely put everything into it. The boys sung 'I Won't Give Up' which wasn't the best choice, but luckily James' solo saved the average performance. Louis and Mel chose to send Lauren home while Simon and Cheryl chose Stereo Kicks so the decision was sent to deadlock and the boys going home as they had the fewest public votes. Sophie was not happy at all, as she felt their live performances were better than Lauren's, but hopefully this won't be the last we hear from!
Four of the best singers are left which means things are just going to get even more tense!
Who do you think will make the grand final in two weeks?
