X Factor: Live Show 5

Posted on Monday, 10 November 2014

This week we saw Queen songs go up against Michael Jackson songs and even though some of our favourite songs weren't performed, we were not disappointed. Find out how the contestants did in our eyes...
BOYS:
Andrea
Andrea as always was faultless vocally and was one of our favourite performances of the night however he needed to have given A LOT more movement during his song. Put on those dancing shoes Andrea... even if it's just a shimmy and shake!

Paul
We LOVED seeing Paul work the stage and gaining more confidence. He sung the song amazingly however there was something lacking. We're unsure of the whole drum and bass backing track for the song but it's always a pleasure hearing Paul sing (although lol at Simon comparing him to a dementor).

GIRLS:
Lauren was back to being herself this week after ditching the choreography and just sticking to doing what she does best. The start of her performance of 'I'll Be There' was a little average, she was still suffering from tonsillitis so she wasn't pushing her voice too much. However towards the end she began to belt out the notes, some were a bit shaky but it definitely helped her performance go from average to stunning.

OVERS:
Fleur:
We loved seeing Fleur do a ballad style performance this week. It highlighted her vocals more and showed us she can do songs without always dancing and rapping. It was simple but still interesting to watch. She's slowing becoming one to watch here at LGC.

Ben:
LOVED LOVED LOVED Ben's performance this week of Michael Jackson's 'Man in the Mirror'. The acapella start was a genius move! Sophie thought this was his best performance to date and took him out of the meh zone and into the wow zone for her. Krizia however enjoyed the song but felt his voice would have suited a different song, possibly Queen's 'We Are The Champions' although that would have been the safe option so we admire him for making a change (pun intended).

Jay:
Considering Jay couldn't sing 24hrs beforehand, they boy did alright. We aren't a fan of these cheesy weird starts but we can see why they did it and it added to the dramatic factor. Even though he sung it well after having his throat/chords burnt (we didn't quite know what happened haha) we could tell he was struggling because he wasn't pushing his voice much which is understandable. Hopefully he gets well soon! We're also loving his raising confidence in singing as there were no shaky quiet starts this week. HUZZAH!

Stevi:
Stevi did again this week, he gave us another not so terrible performance and it worked. He was one of Sophie's fav's of the night. We loved the 4 Stevi heads in the background and the gusto of his performance complete with Freddy Mercury outift and 'stache! Go on Stevi!!

GROUPS:
'Blame it on the Boogie' was surprisingly not as cheesy as what we thought it was going to be. We actually found it a little boring compared to what we're used to seeing from the group and their vocals were a bit average. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance but we just weren't feeling it this week.

Although the boys were joined by a stage intruder (enter Lee Nelson) on Saturday night they didn't let his appearance faze them and they handled it very professionally. Their performance of 'You Are Not Alone' was vocally one of their best in the competition so far. The solos sounded fantastic and of course, so did the harmonizes and THAT note by James was just amazing!

ELIMINATED
Last nights elimination was probably the most shocking and intense result since 2012 when the now very successful Ella Henderson was sent home after a sing off with James Arthur (who went on to win the competition). Paul found himself in the bottom two with Jay and although neither of the two were our favourites on saturday night, they did not deserve to be there. The judges believed that this was one of the best sing offs on the show (Paul singing Emeli Sande's 'Clown' and Jay Eric Clapton's 'Tears In Heaven') and it even made Simon shed a tear! But with the judges votes coming to a tie the decision was put to the public vote and the result did not go down well. Between all the booing in the audience we couldn't tell if Paul's face was full of rage or sadness and mentor Mel was not happy, we definitely thought a few punches were going to be thrown. We hope that Paul can find inspiration from previous acts who left the show too early but have gone on to do amazing things!
We now have to re-evaluate who will be in the top 3!

What were your thoughts on the results? Happy? Sad? Mad?

K. & S.
xx
