Review: One Direction-Four (Deluxe Edition)
Posted on Tuesday, 18 November 2014
LGC have been looking forward to this album's release since 'Fireproof' was given out as a free single! Four is very different to anything One Direction have done before and it really works for the boys who are entering a new stage in their musical lives! Four is more Indie-Pop than pure Pop and we ain't complaining, this is the best sound for them and definitely their best album to date. We're hoping this album will finally put the naysayers to rest and see these boys as more than just X Factor by-products. However we were a little disappointed with the deluxe tracks, compared to the rest of the album they're quite average. We've read that the boys all contributed to the song 'Change Your Ticket' but the rest were written for them (aside from Liam having a writing credit on 'Illusion'), which we found odd as we thought the boys would want to further showcase their talent seeing as the standard album was so brilliant!
Overall we give Four a solid 4 out of 5!

Track by Track Breakdown
1. Steal My Girl
After listening to the whole album we realise this isn't one of their better songs. We like the piano riffs (regardless of the controversy that it sounds like NFG's 'It's Not Your Fault') and the classic na na na's that always manage to squeeze their way onto their albums. We, like most of the people who have listened to their album think that although this song doesn't fit in with the rest of the tracks, it was chosen to be their first song as it sounds like their old sound with a touch of what is to come.
2. Ready to Run
Ready to Run reminds us of 'Story of My Life' however Krizia isn't a massive fan of the chorus where as Sophie doesn't mind it. Although saying that Krizia does claim the ending saves the song for her. The song gives us strong roadtrip vibes and will probably crop up in a road trip playlist in the near future.
3. Where Do Broken Hearts Go?
This is one of Sophie's favourite songs off the album. This is definitely a song to be sung at the top of your lungs whilst driving around or dancing in your room. It reminds us of a proper 80's classic song which is never a bad thing!
4. 18
18 has made it into our top favourite slow 1D songs ('They Don't Know About Us' will always be our number one) and this is also another collab with Ed Sheeran (with the help of Passenger as well) which is very clear in the lyrics and vibe. Such a sweet and lovely song that we can see being a fan favourite.
5. Girl Almighty
This is LGC's favourite track off the album. We love love love the country vibes throughout it, the vocals are on point. It's a real pure fun song, that you just can't help but smile whilst listening to it. Do we also detect a bit of a Vampire Weekend influence perhaps?
6. Fool's Gold
Fool's Gold is a really relaxing song on the album, reminding us of Taylor Swift/Civil Wars collab 'Safe and Sound' (Niall's part at the start even further reminds us of this song). This is one of Krizia's favourites off the album as well.
7. Night Changes
When Sophie heard this song during their BBC Children in Need set she wasn't a massive fan. Listening to it on the album however she actually really enjoys it. It's a nice song, but they've definitely had better slow songs, and it's not the song we would've picked for their official second single off the album.
8. No Control
Another LGC favourite! We see it being 'Happily' 2.0 and feel Louis really shines in this song (which is saying a lot from Sophie who isn't a massive fan of his...SHOCK HORROR)
9. Fireproof
We think this was the perfect teaser song that the boys released. It sums up their album overall and gives us a hint of their new sound which we love!
10. Spaces
We see this song being one of the last songs they'll play on tour. Even though it's a slower song, we can see this being a good sway and sing-a-long song. Even listening to it you just want to grab someone, sway and just get lost in the emotions it brings up.
11. Stockholm Syndrome
When the song starts we immediately think of the 80's again, and it's a song that has torn up LGC with Krizia saying this is her least favourite song and Sophie saying she really likes it.
12. Clouds
Clouds is THE perfect song to close off the album, especially if you really listen to the lyrics.
We love the beat and the vibe the song gives. Once again 1D you've done it again!
DELUXE TRACKS
13. Change Your Ticket
HELLO The 1975 influences! If we didn't know any better we would think this was something from an alternative indie band. Aside from that, we can see this being a big crowd pleaser and one that we're looking forward to seeing live.
14. Illusion
Our least favourite song out of the deluxe tracks. We feel it lacks that oomph and doesn't really go anywhere like the other songs give us on the album.
15. Once in a Lifetime
One of the shorter tracks on the album but one of our favourite deluxe songs, we wish it slightly longer as it's such a sweet song!
16. Act My Age
The saving grace for this song has to be the irish influenced music, which makes up for the.. to put it bluntly.. lame lyrics. Defo not something we would have expected on this album, maybe an earlier album but not on 'Four'. But as much as we dislike the lyric style we here at LGC just love a bit of irish music and fuels our desire to travel to Ireland (or in Krizia's case travel back to Ireland)
What do you think of 'Four'?
What are your favourite tracks?
