NEW MUSIC ALERT: This Pale Fire "Dusk"

Posted on Tuesday, 23 December 2014

This Pale Fire is the lovechild of the talented New Zealand born Corban Koschak. Residing in Auckland Corban has always had a love of music and with thanks to a few open mic nights and the help of Kyle Wetton and Nick Douch This Pale Fire was born. The EP "Dusk" has been a long process in the making, but like they say good things take time.
This 7 track EP is a great indie/rock record that is enriched with hints of nordic mythology, which can be seen in "The Night" (which is also the EP's first single release) where it pays reference to Fenrir the Wolf God.
The EP overall is refreshing and leaves me wanting more from This Pale Fire, which pains me as they're only still building a fanbase in NZ although I don't see it long before they get recognition and soon will have radio play all over the globe. They've recently just been given funding thanks to NZ Music on Air to create a music video with Cymbol 303 on their collab track "Burst of Colour", which isn't on the EP but if it's anything like the remix track of "Unfamiliar" I'm excited to see what this song will be like!
Personal favourites of mine have to be "The Night", "Silence" & "Siren's Song"

If your living in the Auckland area you should most definitely go and check them out on Facebook to see when they have a gig, if you're like me and not in New Zealand feel free to check out This Pale Fire's Soundcloud or better yet download the EP "Dusk" on Bandcamp! You won't regret it!

PSA: One Direction- Night Changes Official Music Video

Posted on Saturday, 22 November 2014

Yesterday saw One Direction release their official music video for their second single 'Night Changes'.
We here at LGC HQ are in love with it, to the point that Sophie has it on repeat.
This has fast become (well more like instantly) one of our favourite 1D videos and we love the concept of the video.
'Night Changes' sees Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn take the viewer on a series of "dates", which just had us all go mush in the knees and giggle like little school girls. However the "dates" don't have a happy ending where something eventually goes wrong at the end of the date (although we don't imagine Zayn not throwing a couple of punches or sticking up for his date to the guy who interrupts them) regardless we would be happy to have a date with Harry (for Sophie) or Niall (for Krizia)!

What are your thoughts on 1D's new video and which date would you love to be on?

Review: One Direction-Four (Deluxe Edition)

Posted on Tuesday, 18 November 2014

LGC have been looking forward to this album's release since 'Fireproof' was given out as a free single! Four is very different to anything One Direction have done before and it really works for the boys who are entering a new stage in their musical lives! Four is more Indie-Pop than pure Pop and we ain't complaining, this is the best sound for them and definitely their best album to date. We're hoping this album will finally put the naysayers to rest and see these boys as more than just X Factor by-products. However we were a little disappointed with the deluxe tracks, compared to the rest of the album they're quite average. We've read that the boys all contributed to the song 'Change Your Ticket' but the rest were written for them (aside from Liam having a writing credit on 'Illusion'), which we found odd as we thought the boys would want to further showcase their talent seeing as the standard album was so brilliant!

Overall we give Four a solid 4 out of 5!

Review: Calvin Harris- Motion

Posted on Friday, 7 November 2014

One of the biggest DJ's in the world released his fourth album at the beginning of the week and i've finally gotten round to giving it a listen. If you're looking for something fresh in the EDM scene this won't be the album for you. Motion is very much like Calvin's previous record 18 Months, full of radio and dance anthems which are sure to please the fans.
Tracks like 'Under Control', 'Blame', 'Outside', 'Slow Acid', and the anthem of the summer conveniently titled 'Summer' were released prior to the album and are all massive hits, which is why i personally had high expectations for Motion and i wasn't disappointed.
Motion's opener 'Faith' features Calvin's vocals and is the perfect track to lead into the rest of the album which also features a verrrry slowed down and interesting tune 'Ecstasy'. The guests that feature are Haim, Gwen Stefani, Big Sean, Ellie Goulding, John Newman, Tinashe, All About She, and Hurts as well as fellow DJ's and producers Ummet Ozcan, R3hab, Firebeatz, and Alesso.
Stand outs on the album (besides those that have already been released) and tracks that i can't wait to get my dance on to are:

It Was You
Overdrive
Open Wide
Dollar Signs
Burinin

Overall my rating for Motion is 3 and a half out of 5 because although it does have some great tracks it does lack a little bit of originality, and some of the collaborations with the bigger names in the industry are a tad underwhelming.

NEW MUSIC ALERT! You + Me

Posted on Thursday, 11 September 2014

Alecia Moore aka Pink and Dallas Green (Alexisonfire and City and Colour) have teamed up together to create a brand new project 'You + Me'.
Originally meant to be just one or two songs, the pair worked so well together they ended up writing an entire album. We're both big fans of Dallas and Pink and never really thought of their voices fitting together, but the first song which is also titled 'You and Me' is surprisingly good. The song has a bit of a country/indie vibe which kind of reminds us of 'The Civil Wars'. We're looking forward to hearing the rest of their material!
album 'Rose Ave.' is out on October 14.
