WCW: Caitlyn Jenner

Posted on Wednesday, 3 June 2015

This Woman Crush Wednesday goes to Caitlyn Jenner!
We salute you and celebrate the fact you're now ready to show the world your sassy self!
After watching the Kardashian Special I could see how excited Bruce was for this new stage of life... and I can see why! DAMN CAITLYN! YOU ARE LOOKING FIONE!
I have to admit scrolling through my newsfeed I kept seeing the Vanity Fair cover pop up over and over again but didn't pay any attention to it as I thought it was just about another hollywood starlet... (truthfully in my flicker through I thought she was Kelly Brook) and we also can't help but see the comparisons between the amazingly beautiful Jessica Lange as well.

Within moments of the cover going live a twitter account and wikipedia page had been created (or most likely edited in the case of the wiki page) and was trending the world by storm!
In the issue of Vanity Fair it discusses the types of surgical moves that Jenner had to udertake which included: shaving of the adams apple, two nose surgeries, hair removal (which took 2 years to complete), facial feminization which saw the correction of hairline, forehead, jaw and chin.. now i'm no accountant but that would have costed a hefty sum! Which only goes to show the dedication and determination she had to become her true self.

We here at LGC HQ stand up and applaud the bravery and confidence in ones self that Caitlyn has shown doing this cover. Her along with the fierce Laverne Cox and delightful Conchita Wurst are excellent role models in being true to yourself which I feel is something that we can all relate too, being 100% comfortable in your own skin.

You keep being you Caitlyn!

WCW: Elizabeth Olsen

Posted on Wednesday, 15 April 2015

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's little sister began her career at a young age, staring in her twin sisters films and she even auditioned for a role in Spy Kids.
Her breakout role however, was in 2011 when she played the lead in Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Last year Elizabeth starred in the Godzilla remake as Aaron Taylor-Johnson's wife, and this year she is set to act along side him again as his sister Wanda (The Scarlet Witch) in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
She is definitely our new favourite Olsen sister and we can't wait to see her career grow!

WCW: Shailene Woodley

Posted on Wednesday, 18 March 2015

To celebrate the release of Insurgent tomorrow, we've dedicated this weeks WCW to Miss Shailene Woodley.
Shailene got her breakthrough role in 2011 with The Descendants which won her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female, as well as a Golden Globe nomination. Before this she appeared in several TV shows such as, Without a Trace, Everybody Loves Raymond, My Name is Earl, CSI: NY, and she originally played the young Kaitlin Cooper in The O.C! But 2014 was definitely Shailene's biggest year yet, with a lead role in John Green's film adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars and as Tris in the first film of the Divergent series.
Shailene is all about being natural, in her spare time you'll find her eating clay, collecting mountain stream water, and making her own toothpaste and body lotions. We'd be keen to check out some of her homemade products, but we're not too sure about the clay...

WCW: Jhené Aiko

Posted on Wednesday, 4 March 2015

The beautiful and talented Jhené Aiko is this weeks Woman Crush Wednesday!
The Los Angeles born singer and songwriter has been a part of the music industry for half of her 26 year old life. She got her break by contributing vocals for RnB group B2K at 13!
At 20, Jhené gave birth to a little baby girl but the hard working single mama pursued her career and continues to gain success in the industry!
Her style is A+ and her voice is so dreamy and amazing!
I have Zayn Malik from One Direction to thank for tweeting about this song and thus introducing me to Jhené and Childish Gambino.

WCW: Hayley Williams

Posted on Wednesday, 28 January 2015

Hayley Williams, front woman of pop punk band Paramore is this weeks WCW!
Growing up in the emo stages of our lives she was the girl we all wanted to be/be best friends with. Her trademark fiery locks were the envy of everyone, as noone can truly pull off that brilliant orange red that Hayley does so well! Along with every other shade of orange, red, blonde and even pink (we have serious outfit/hair envy watching Paramore's music video for Still Into You.
Joining the band at just 14/15 Hayley Williams has been in the industry for pretty much half her life and it doesn't seem like she's got any plans to slow down.
She's been dating Chad Gilbert from legendary pop punk band New Found Glory for the past 5 years and over the Christmas break they announced their engagement which had as here at LGC squeeling with joy! We can't wait to see what the wedding is like!
Her punk ass, no bare hold attitude makes her an excellent role model for those girls who feel as if they don't quite fit in. Sometimes we find ourselves saying "What Would Hayley Do?" and to this day we still hope to meet her and become best friends with her!

WCW: Anna Kendrick

Posted on Wednesday, 7 January 2015

Our first WCW of the year goes to the amazing Anna Kendrick.
We feel like she would fit right in with LGC with her wit and sass. If you aren't aware of her sass already you should follow her on twitter for a good laugh!
She also prefers to stay at home in her sweats which we're big fans of too (can we just be BFFS already).
Not only is she an actress, but (if you haven't seen Pitch Perfect do so right now!) she can sing, and she's responsible for creating one of the catchiest songs in 2012 with her cups routine.
As well as Into the Woods (out in cinemas in NZ and UK Jan 9th) and Pitch Perfect 2, Anna has four other movies that are being released in 2015. We think this is the year of Anna Kendrick!

WCW: Natalie Dormer

Posted on Wednesday, 26 November 2014

After recently seeing her portray Cressida in Mockingjay we had to give Natalie Dormer our WCW spot this week. We love that she had no problem shaving the side of her long hair off for the role and it's a look that she pulls off flawlessly (we don't think we could make it as actresses if it meant dramatically changing our hair!). Our love for Nat didn't start here though, as massive Game Of Thrones fans we love her in her role as the sexy innocent (but not really innocent) Margaery Tyrell. Although that's not her first major role in the business we think it's definitely one that's made the entertainment industry adore her.
Natalie Dormer seems like such a fun, smart, badass woman and we wish she was our friend!

WCW: The Haim Sisters

Posted on Wednesday, 12 November 2014

In this edition of WCW we have decided to pick not one but three lovely ladies, the amazing Haim.
Haim, pronounced HAYm not HIGHm, are three sisters, Eldest Este, middle child Danielle, and youngest Alana. Haim hail from Los Angeles and were previously in a family band with their parents called Rockinhaim before becoming a trio.
They are probably three of the coolest, funniest, and talented girls in the music industry right now and we are super envious of all that princess hair, their incredible legs and we love Este's crazy bass face.
If they are coming to your town soon we definitely recommend buying a ticket because they put on one hell of a show full of crazy guitar playing and drumming, dancing, awkward stories, and good times.

We want to be a Haim sister!

WCW: Taylor Momsen

Posted on Wednesday, 22 October 2014

Before fronting her band 'The Pretty Reckless' Taylor Momsen was an actress, usually the transition between actor to musician or vice versa makes us cringe but Taylor is actually quite a great singer.
Her breakout role was in 2000 playing the adorable Cindy Lou Who in 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' and she then went on to play the presidents daughter in 'Spy Kids 2'.
Did you know Taylor auditioned for the main role in Hannah Montana? and got in to the top 3!
Her last big role as an actress was Jenny Humphrey in 'Gossip Girl' and from there she left the show to pursue her career in music.
Along with changing her career came her change in appearance. She rocks her risky lingerie attire and super high platform heels on stage,  she takes the smokey eye to a whole new level, and we admire her 'don't give a fuck' attitude.

WCW: Sarah Michelle Gellar

Posted on Wednesday, 8 October 2014

Since it's halloween month LGC had to commemorate the badass that is Buffy The Vampire Slayer!
Sarah Michelle Gellar is no stranger when it comes to the horror genre, she came to prominence in the 90's with her roles in classic teen horror films. Her breakout movie role was Helen in 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' where she also met her future husband, the dreamy Freddie Prinze Jr! Following this role she took on another classic 'Scream 2' as Cici, who meets her end when she's stabbed and thrown off the balcony. Her filming commitments caused her to turn down a role in another popular 90's slasher 'Urban Legend'.
When she wasn't working on films she had the role of Buffy to play, the chosen slayer who fights vampires, demons, and dark forces,  the series is one of the most successful TV shows form the late 90's early 00's.
After her roles as the damsel in distress Daphne in the Scooby Doo movies, SMG returned to the dark side as Karen in on of the creepiest movies we've seen 'The Grudge' and since then has had a few more roles in movies with dark story lines. These days she's giving movies a rest and sticking to her TV roles,  being an advocate for several charities, and being a kick ass mum!

WCW: Emma Watson

Posted on Wednesday, 24 September 2014

The English Rose that is Emma Watson has been blowing up social media lately for her wonderfully executed He for She campaign speech. We here at LGC HQ bow down and appreciate all that she is doing to help everyone achieve gender equality.
Not only is she a bad ass feminist but she also graduated from Brown University with a degree in English Literature!
It's no wonder this book worm was chosen to play the intelligent heroine and role model to a generation Hermione Granger.
She is Burberry's muse and sought after by all the top fashion designer to wear their frocks at all and any occasion.
She is currently dating Oxford University rugby player Matt Janey (we knew she had good taste in men- gotta love a rugby boy), can we just say super adorbz together!
Well done Emma for being just the ultimate, lovely lovely girl you are!

WCW: Katy Perry

Posted on Wednesday, 10 September 2014

California girls really are undeniable!
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson or Katy Perry to her fans has this weeks honour of being our woman crush wednesday. This was no easy feat to decide, after many thoughts and deliberations it was only fair to give this crown to the Ultimate Shade Queen of 2014.
Not only does she kiss girls and like it, but she can make us feel like we're living a teenage dream! Her sass meter is off the charts but still maintains her girl next door charm.
Her style is one to be desired, whether she's wearing a cupcake crop top with jewelled denim shorts, dressed as a killer queen or even when she's dressed casual.
She's a natural comedian, kind, knows how to have a good time and someone who would fit right in in LGC HQ (we'll always leave a spot open for ya)!
Her constant change of hair colour gives us all hair envy.
Don't ever change Katy, we wouldn't want you any other way!
