OOTD: It's the Addam's Family

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Krizia

I've always wanted to dress up as Wednesday Addams for Halloween but no matter how hard i looked i could never find the perfect dress! I wanted Sophie's which she got from ASOS but by the time i went to buy it my size was sold out, luckily I found this one which I preferred because of the lace detail. I'm wearing mine with my trusty black knee high socks that I also purchased from ASOS and my Jeffrey Campbell Lita's  which aren't very Wednesday Addams but I just love them too much. Wednesday's hair is very sleek and tightly braided but I just can't rock that look without my face looking huge so (you can't really tell) but my braids are loose and a bit messy at the top to make my hair look less flat. I'm wearing Gothic Glam lipstick in the colour Scorned 2 and I've added a bit more bronzer than usual under my cheekbones to give me a more gaunt/dead look.

Sophie

Wednesday Adams speaks to me on a spiritual level, whether it's her hatred for people or if it's just her love for the colour black. I used to wish I could be just like her and have been on the hunt for a dress like hers for awhile. I finally stumbled across a style via Katie Snooks where she had done an ASOS haul and I knew I had to have it. It's super comfy and I love the contrasting white cuffs and collar. My hair isn't as black as Wednesday's or as long so my plaits are relatively shorter (which i feel gives off a more house on the prairie vibe). I teamed this all with a pair of black and my chunky heeled chelsea boots. As for makeup I kept the look simple. I used Sephora Gel Eyeliner to give off a subtle cat eye flick and then used a small amount of my Sephora Full Action mascara. For my lips I used Gothic Glam in Scorned 2 (same as Krizia).

LGC Style Icon Halloween Edition: Heidi Klum

Posted on Wednesday, 29 October 2014

This month in keeping with our Halloween theme we've chosen the ever so enchanting Heidi Klum as our Style Icon for the main fact that she is the Queen of Halloween costumes!

We here at LGC love her dedication to her costumes and look forward to what she's got up her sleeve every year!
These are just a select few of her costumes but from what you can see she's been pretty much everything, from Alien/Cyborgs, Betty Boop, Shiva all the way to her costume last year of an old lady complete with varicose viens!!
We also love how ex hubby Seal was always just as dedicated in joining in with his wife's costume (we loved the role reversal of Eve and the Snake).
If you cash to splash Pinterest is great to find really well made replicas of costumes (can also try Ebay).

What has been your favourite Heidi Klum costume/ What are you going as for Halloween?!

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 4

The Grudge
Krizia somehow managed to watch this in the cinema when it first came out and it's the first scary movie to really terrify her. The Grudge is actually a remake of the Japanese horror called 'Ju-On: The Grudge' (which is also a video game...no thanks). The Grudge stars Sarah Michelle Gellar who is a nurse living in Tokyo. While she's caring for an elderly woman she is exposed to a supernatural curse, a curse that is born when someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage or extreme sorrow. Those who encounter it die and the curse is reborn repeatedly, spreading from victim to victim. The reason why it's so creepy goes to the mother ghost Kayako who is seen crawling up and down the stairs (up there with that stairs scene from 'The Exorcist'), and the scene which haunted Krizia the most involving a death rattle type sound and someone lurking underneath the bed sheets.
Dead Silence
After umming and ahhing over what this week's second LGC horror film pick would be Sophie suggested the ever so creepy Dead Silence. Krizia was the one that introduced this to Sophie and from there a love/hate relationship blossomed (even writing this is creeping Sophie out). The movie is about Mary Shaw who loved her dolls and was a skilled ventriloquist but after a boy went missing the villagers thought it was her fault and killed her. Her spirit terrorises the town and every victim she encounters she rips out their tongue. Starring Ryan Kwanten as Jamie this movie gets you at every turn and the twist at the end is truly jaw dropping. Just remember to not make a sound because as the saying goes:
"Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls. If you see her in your dreams, make sure you never ever scream, or she'll cut your tongue out at the seam"

Honourable Mentions
Thirteen Ghosts
Halloween Series (remake included)
Silent Hill
Friday the 13th
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 3

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Another classic Wes Craven film and one you may have seen in 2010 when the (average) remake came out in cinemas. A Nightmare on Elm Street is about Freddy Krueger, a man who seeks revenge on the parents who burned him alive by killing their children in their dreams/nightmares. The Elm Street franchise now consists of 9 films 5 of which are sequels to the original plus a crossover with Jason Voorhees, novels and comic books. Each of the films feature creative and grotesque deaths, one in particular that has stuck with Krizia involves Freddy using one of the kids as a human puppet by slicing him down his arms and legs and we'll leave you to think about what he does to the poor kid next.

The Conjuring
Directed by James Wan this 2013 horror film centres on the Perron family whose house seems to be haunted. Enter Ed and Lorraine Warren who are paranormal investigators who come to help expel the evil inside the house. This is currently one of Sophie's fav horrors which is not like her as anything to do with the paranormal super freaks her out. Regardless The Conjuring is one of the best horrors to come out recently. Excellent storyline, including a mini teaser of a storyline for the creepy possessed doll Annabelle, the casting is great with Vera Farmiga playing Lorraine the sensitive clairvoyant, Lili Taylor who plays Carolyn the matriarch of the family and is the target of the haunting. Every time we see it we still get creeped out when Nancy claims she can see someone standing by the door (Sophie can never see it), and we can't forget to mention the delightful game of hide and clap that is featured in the movie (even one of the ghosts wanted to get involved).
The spin-off movie Annabelle is out in cinemas across NZ & UK

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 2

Paranormal Activity
The trailer definitely makes the movie out to be scarier than what it actually is, but for a low budget film it did make both of us jump! Katie and Micah are a young couple who are haunted by a supernatural presence in their home which has taken an interest in Katie. They decide to set up a camera in their room while they sleep in the hopes that they can capture any of the strange activities on film. We were not fans of the dragging from the bed and the loud heavy footsteps running up the stairs. Krizia in particular doesn't like the movie because after watching it she had her first experience with sleep paralysis which if you haven't experienced before is terrifying. There are three different endings to the film and there are now five follow ups to the movie (and plans to make more!) all of which didn't have to be made, but they each have their creepy moments and characters, special mention has to go to 'Toby' from Paranormal Activity 3.

The Hills Have Eyes
This is one of Sophie's favourite horror films, and was the first horror film she ever went and watched in the cinema (normally she would wait till she could watch it in the comforts of her home). It's a remake of Wes Craven's 1977 film. It focuses on the Carter family who are travelling to San Diego to celebrate Ethel and Bob's silver anniversary. It's smooth sailing till a gas attendant tells them of a quicker route (note to self never take an off beaten road in America) in which they then become targets of a mutant community living in the hills. We should note there is one scene in particular that people may find disturbing so watch with caution if you are easily offended. We have to give a special shout out to Ruby (ruby ruby ruby ahhhhhhhhhhhh) she's that mutant child you can't help but want to survive! There is a sequel which we feel isn't worth mentioning for the amount of flaws it has but it is still an enjoyable watch.

Let us know what your favourite scary movie is!

LGC Favourite Halloween Movies Part 1

Poltergeist Trilogy
The Poltergeist series revolves around the youngest daughter of the Freeling family, Carol Anne, who one night connects with spirits through a dead channel on the TV. At first the ghosts are harmless but they soon turn nasty as they try to kidnap and possess Carol Anne and kill her family, you may recognize some scenes in the first film that were spoofed in Scary Movie 2. We would consider the films to be classic must see 'horror' movies, watching them now they're full of cringe worthy acting and some pretty bad special effects, but it was the 80's and at the time the series was pretty terrifying. The third movie had Krizia petrified of mirrors and windows for years as she had the biggest fear that she would see Kane (the creepy, evil, dead preacher) and the movie still haunts her to this day (Sophie has yet to see these films). Supposedly real human remains were used in the films which led people to speculate the film was cursed after the untimely deaths of the two young actresses Heather O'Rourke (Carol Anne) and Dominique Dunne (the eldest Freeling child). Look out for the remake in July 2015!

I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in the peak of the 90s when slasher horror films where at their prime! (This was also one of the very first horror films Sophie ever watched :O)
The plot is simple, four friends- Julie, Ray, Helen and Barry- from a small costal town accidentally run over a pedestrian on the drive home from a late night beach hang, they then agree to dispose of his body by the docks and never speak of it again. A year later the four friends are the target of someone who knows their little secret from the summer before and is wanting to get some payback. This film is a classic slasher from start to finish teamed with big name 90s stars in the cast- Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jnr, Ryan Phillipee and Sarah Michelle Gellar (who also got the lead in Buffy that same year) made this film a blockbuster hit. Entertainment Weekly even praised Jennifer Love Hewitt and her performance as Julie saying she that she "knew how to scream with soul."
